Managing Screentime

Screentime

Parents are often concerned that their children spend too much time looking at screens.

The current Department of Health Guidelines recommend that primary school aged children spend at least 60 minutes per day engaged in vigorous physical activity, have 9 to 11 hours of sleep and that recreational screen time be limited to 2 hours per day.

More information may be found at the Australian Government Department of Health.

The American Association of Paediatricians has a set of recommendations and also suggest that families have a media use plan. It is important to note that educational screen time is considered valuable and separate from other screentime.

Managing Screen Time

You can manage screen time with Apple's built-in parental controls. Through these settings you can:

  • use Screen Time to set time limits for apps and websites

  • set content and privacy restrictions

  • prevent iTunes & App Store purchases

  • allow built-in apps or features

  • prevent web content

  • restrict Safari web search
